  • Master Mork is based on Baron Mordo, Doctor Stephen Strange's old enemy and rival from Marvel.
  • The Mystic-Guard are based on the Jedi-Guard from Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels.
  • Gremlins are, in fact, a popular piece of "modern" folklore. Royal Air Force service members began to reference them in the 1920s, and they were popularized during World War II when pilots on both sides of the European Theater began suffering large numbers of inexplicable difficulties with their respective aircraft.
  • The gremlins in this series owe a lot to the 1984 Gremlins film produced by Steven Spielberg.
  • The gremlins tearing apart the engine of a plane is lifted directly from The Twilight Zone episode Nightmare at 20,000 Feet.
  • Blue tigers were cryptids from Asia.
  • paraphrases Hamlet  upon finding remains from an old comrade. More specifically, his little monologue is inspired by Hamlet's famous "Alas, poor Yorick!" scene.
  • The Pyramid Peeker's theme is patterned after the main theme of the Indiana Jones films.
  • The temple and its traps are reminiscent of the Indiana Jones movies, a homage made blatant as Velma replicates a sequence from Raiders of the Lost Ark though with a book rather than a fedora.
  • As Bennett orders a retreat after falling off the cliff, Taps can be heard.
  • At the last second, Telok aborts its self-destruct sequence with the line, "Core implosion aborted, all systems normal. Have a nice day." This is similar to a self-destruct sequence in the 1987 sci-fi parody Spaceballs.
  • The Rubicon is a river in Italy. During the Roman Republic era, it was illegal for a Roman general to have his army cross it, thus protecting Rome from a military threat. Julius Caesar crossed it and started a civil war which would eventually lead to Rome switching from a republic to an empire. During this, he uttered, "Alea iacta est", Latin for "the die is cast". Today, "crossing the Rubicon" is an idiom meaning to go past the point of no return.
  • When Velma is too injured to walk, Rog-Raj declares that "The lady shall ride the tiger". This is a reference to Frank Stockton's famous short story, "The Lady or the Tiger?
  • The Arabian Knights is a spoof on 'The Arabian Nights', legends set on Arabia.
  • The lovely music playing as the lot go with the Arabian Knights on flight is based on the tune on 'A Whole New World' from Aladdin.
  • When the groups walk on the desert, the soundtrack goes all Lawrence of Arabia.
  • The funny exchange between the lot as the Powerpuff Girls save the blimp ("Look! Down in the sky! Is it a bird"? "Maybe a plane?" "No, it's the Powerpuff!") riffs on a cliché line from Superman, as does the John Williams-esque music that plays immediately afterwards.
  • When Buttercup beats her chest and does a roar, she's parodising Kong when he;s beaten theropods on the 2005 version of King Kong.
  • Velma ponders 'To be or not to be... that is the question'.... a well-known quote from William Shakespeare's Hamlet.
  • "W.W.J.D.?" is short for "What Would Jesus Do?" , the popular meme which has previously been adapted for other famous characters.
  • Sheriff Stone refers to the bear as "Yogi".
  • As Bridget works to mess up the impound lot's security, the incidental music starts parodying the Mission: Impossible theme.
    • Gripo's method of pedaling his crane disguise is reminiscent of how the characters from The Flintstones pedal their stone-age vehicles.
  • When the lot first encounter Mojo Jojo, he runs off in traditional Road Runner fashion, accompanied a slide whistle sound cue.
  • Shortly afterwards, the lot fall into Mojo's lair- in classic cartoon fashion, they briefly hang in the air for a few seconds before falling; their weapons stay suspended for even longer.
  • The scene when HIM took snake-form when about to trick Velma is a nod to the Serpent who tricked Adam and Eve to eat the Forbidden Fruit on the Bible.
  • Buttercup's annoyed complaint 'Another mess you got us into, eh ' is based on a well-known quote from Lauren and Hardy.
  • The showdown-scene of the Mystery-Gang's debut is a big ol' homage to old Spaghetti Westerns, right down to the music cues, genre conventions, and, of course, the tumbleweed.
  • Frep-Frep sings a fragment of "Pop Goes the Weasel" as he prepares to act.
  • Wepo telling how all they had to do was live in peace on Earth - but instead humanity ruined it. Daphne then shakes her head and replies that it is an "old story", and maybe someday they will all learn. This seems to be a reference to the Garden of Eden from the Bible.
  • Hedler is a parody on HYDRA from the Marvel Comics.
  • Hedler's hunt for occult relics is similar to how the Nazis hunted for occult relics on deserts such as Africa and Asia...... most notably known to'd inspired the Nazis on Indiana Jones and the Lost Ark.
  • 's description of Hedler invokes the imagery of Nazi propaganda films.
  • Pugy at one point suggests pulling the Trojan Horse trick on Hedler.
  • A young child asking a parent what he did in the war was the subject of an iconic British propaganda poster, while the specific wording Velma uses is the title for a 1966 Blake Edwards film.
  • When trying to intercept the red spark, Shaman declares You shall not pass!", a possible reference to Gandalf's words in The Lord of the Rings.
  • Lieutenant Ropo's interaction with the mystery-solvers is highly reminiscent of the depiction of cooperative Soviet operatives in American fiction during the Cold War. The accent, the diplomatic politeness, and the gadgets..it's all stereotypical of an 80s spy movie (or G.I.Joe episode) where the American heroes must work with Soviet agents for the greater good.
  • As the Mystery-Gang rides the missile connected with Reop's ship, they lets out a cowboy yell, homaging Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.
  • Velma refers to Wepo as "Jo-Jo", possibly in reference to Jo-Jo the Dog-Faced Boy.
  • The jaunty sea shanty heard in the Sub-Scouts has a very similar tempo and chordal arrangement to the popular Beatles song Yellow Submarine.
  • The scene when Jack the Ripper smashes through a door, peeks through and says 'Here's Jackie' is similar to a well-known scene from the horror-film The Shining.
  • Ivan's remark "It's just a scratch" during the broken arm scene is be a reference to the immortal line of the Black Knight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
  • Miss Repo saying 'Ivan's not a knight..... he;s a very naughty boy' is a reference to a well-known line from Monty Python and the Life of Brian.
  • The story of the S.S. Quest-Keeper is a reference to the 1997 movie Titanic, including a tragic love story, a grand double staircase, and a flute melody in the episode's incidental music that should sound very familiar.
  • When Hedler's robotic sharks come in the ocean, the music playing is similar to the theme from the horror film Jaws.
  • Velma's comment on working with muto-rats on the Sahara Desert was a reference to The Rat Patrol, a 1960s TV show about a group of Allied soldiers fighting Field-Marshal Edwin Rommel's Afrika Corps on the North African front during World War II.
  • When is leaving the base, he comments that "a deed, once done, cannot be undone", a slight modification of the Shakespearean quote from Macbeth "what is done cannot be undone".
  • In the scene where Koggy bursts into the Hedler base, he swiftly punches through the wall with Trooper Wop on the other side and drags him back through the hole. This could be a reference to a similar sequence in RoboCop, especially with the stompy footsteps beforehand.
  • The fight between Koggy and Mecbok ends with Koggy and Mecbok socking Mecbok so hard that his neck pops up, referencing Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em Robots.
  • The episode title 'Gorilla-Warfare' is a pun on the concept of Guerrilla Warfare. And though Fred comment that it suits Koggy makes for a nice joke and play on the title, it doesn't say much for Fred's knowledge of the tactics. As Hugman said.... real guerrilla warfare is built on surprise attacks, sabotage, ambushes, and deception..... far from insane and suicidal frontal assaults without plans against superior numbers.
  • 's final words, "The rest is silence", are taken directly from the final words of the title character in Shakespeare's Hamlet. (The entreaty to tell his story is also taken from earlier in Hamlet's death scene, although rephrased.)
  • Mayor Nettles makes direct reference to Noah's Ark in response to the large number of wild animals in the city.
  • A lot of the scenes in D-Day 2 reminisce horror-movie clichés: Mayor Nettles and Sheriff Stone play the obligatory "young couple", encountering several fake-out scares as they search for Hedler. The gloomy, boggy landscape in which the episode takes place allows for murky, atmospheric shots reminiscent of slasher films.
  • The scene where Fred and Daphne stumble across the gruesome scene of the monster's last victim is lifted from basically every slasher/monster movie ever.
  • Sheriff Stone's annoyed reaction thinking the monster's movements was another false alarm is a nod to Aesop's The Boy who Cried Wolf.
  • Torrer declares "Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war"........ a well-known quote from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.
  • Professor Cress says 'Friends, brothers, sisters, lend me your ears', semi-quoting a well-known scene from Shakespeare's Julius Caeser.
  • The lines Torrer reads from the Covenant bear some similarities to lines from the Bible.
  • When the lot burst into Tarantulas's lab, Daphne is kneeling at Fred's feet, with one hand affectionately placed on his leg.  The shot is a parody of the stereotypical heroic entrance/posturing scene, such as found on the theatrical poster for the original Star Wars: A New Hope film.
  • The scene where Fred proudly wields two dao swords before an unimpressed Bennett lazily shoots him down is reminiscent of the famous duel between between Indiana Jones and the Cairo swordsman in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Koggy pushing Mecpok into a rotor blade echoes the demise of the German engineer soon in the same movie.
  • Torrer's calling Fred out as "no Winston Churchill£ is a modification of the famous "Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy" speech given by Lloyd Bentsen to Dan Quayle during the 1988 vice presidential debate.
  • When the beaten Torrer sees Scooby, he remarks: "Ah, so this is the way the world ends. Not with a bang, but with a simpering, whimpering canine." This is a paraphrased quote from the poem "The Hollow Men" by T.S. Eliot.
  • The tribal celebration, with the jubilant ones happily using the parts of their defeated enemies as musical instruments, is reminiscent of the Ewok celebration in Star-Wars: Return of the Jedi.
