- There are many Jaws references in this episode.
- Shimagura parodies Chrissie Watkins.
- The Samebito parodies Jaws the Shark.
- The boat sinks like it did in the original film.
- The way the Samebito eats the hair off Scooby's tail is similar to the way Quint dies.
- Toshi copies Martin Brody by climbing up the sinking boat post and he says " You are a real son of a death-bringer".
- The ending scene was edited out in the English dub, and was replaced by an overhead shot of the sharks seen escaping from the boathouse Rochelle held them in following her.
- The roars of the Samebito sounds like the T-Rex from Jurassic Park and Zilla from the 1998 version of Godzilla.
- Despite the fact that sharks and other fishes don't have vocal cords and as such can't produce any sounds, the Samebito is clearly heard growling, snarling, and even roaring in his scenes. However, this may have been added for dramatic effect. His growling noises were provided by Frank Welker in the English dub. This may also be a possible reference to the infamous roaring shark of Jaws: The Revenge.
