Batman: The Dark Knight is an American superhero television series developed by Drew Goddard and Bruno Heller, based on the DC Comics character Batman, created by Bill Finger and Bob Kane. The series premiered on Bold on January 4, 2016, and ran for a total of six seasons, ending on October 12, 2021. The series was primarily shot in Philedelphia, Pennsylvania.

The series follows the exploits of billionaire philanthropist Bruce Wayne (Brett Dalton), who went missing following college and has only recently returned to his home city of Gotham, quickly developing the masked vigilante identity of the Batman to combat the many threats that his city faces. Along the way, Bruce is accompanied by his butler and former spy Alfred Pennyworth (Anthony Head) and has freqeunt team-ups with the Gotham City Police Commissioner Jim Gordon (Aidan Quinn). Bruce also frequently deals with his inventor and chairman of his company, Lucius Fox (Jesse L. Martin), and later in the series also brings orphan Dick Grayson (Tyler Posey) and the Commissioner's genius daughter Barbara Gordon (Chloë Grace Moretz) in on his vigilante operation. Throughout the series, Bruce also deals with his relationship with the burglar Selina Kyle (Sofia Boutella), which is somewhere between a romance and a rivalry.

Series Overview[]

The series follows the exploits of billionaire philanthropist Bruce Wayne returning to his home of Gotham City after disappearing for nearly a decade, returning and beginning to build his new career as the masked vigilante Batman.

In season one, Bruce has only recently returned to Gotham following a mysterious disappearance. Immediately, Bruce begins rebuilding his fallen empire, including taking over his father's company Wayne Enterprises, with the assistance of his butler Alfred Pennyworth and a higher up at his company, Lucius Fox. By night, however, Bruce begins building his career as the Batman, battling against the criminal forces of Gotham, although this brings him into conflict with the Gotham City Police Department, among which his only ally is Police Lieutenant Jim Gordon, who assists him in battling against the criminal Black Mask and his False Face Society. In the second half of the season, Bruce is also forced to fight against nutorious serial killer The Joker, who he has accidentally inspired to come out of retirement.
